A calm, trickling sound of water and cooling breeze lift the spirits of intrepid warriors. Passing geisha and noble samurai pay a glance as spectators of the fighters within the four bridges arena. If not for the combat within, one could easily mistake it as a place for zen. Referee Taki awaits warriors to enter through the portal, calmed in her small hut drinking tea.

Üsserhadd continued to lay down in place, staring up at the sky. He knew that failing was a way to learn, but it seemed unacceptable. The knight dusted himself and got back up on his feet, "Again!" he shouted, "I need some training, not better equipment. The sword does not make the warrior, the willpower does." He adjusted himself and looked towards referee Taki, "Start me off with some Figments, I need to practice against elements. Weaknesses like that cannot be tolerated. I shall develop my immunity to them."

"Fine. Anyone else?" asked Taki. "How many foes do you wish to fight?"

"Figments, numerous." Üsserhadd said, "Difficulty about normal, I can't get proper training out of figments if it's too easy." The knight gave himself a few stretches, "I need another go at those elementals in the future, can't have them get the better of me."

Dayo rolled up to a sitting posistion, laying her Voulge down next to her, "Sure, I'm in for another round," She said as she slowly rolled her way up to her feet, picking the axe back up.

Valiant lazily got back to his feet and walked over to Üsserhadd before yawning. The wolf whined about having to do more fighting, but shook its hair and stretched to prepare.

"Fine!" declared Taki again and eyed Üsserhadd for a moment. She then walked back to her hut and threw some stones with runes on them to the ground. She then read yet another scroll, and the stones suddenly became alive! One of them turned into a rather formless cloud, another into a small ball of fire, the third into an icicle figure and the fourth into a rocky figure. They were all slightly smaller than the elementals they had just fought, but bigger than normal elemental figments!

Round 4:
<img:stuff/a_xiadomian-02_04c.jpg>
Valiant G13 HP -7/11
Dayo D14 HP 12/31
Üsserhadd C13 HP 18/36
Rock Figment D13 HP 0/16 MP 4/8

Round 1!

Not very surprisingly, even the figments were faster than Dayo or Üsserhadd. The lightning figment chose Valiant as its target and casted Screech and Wind slash on it.
The flame figment, then again, casted Flamethrower on everyone!

Valiant used his Lightning Speed to try and evade the windslash and flamethrower.
Üsserhadd slashed at the flames spat at him with his sword for defense, using the broad side of the blade to act as a fan to blow the fires away.
Dayo raised her axe against the flames, trying to veer them away from her face.
Valiant's sensitive ears were thoroughly assaulted by the Screech spell, and after that it just couldn't bring itself to successfully evade the other spells. At the end of it, Valiant was well unconscious, having taken 18 damage!
Dayo and Üsserhadd, then again, had no trouble blocking some of the flames and only took 4 damage each.

Dayo's turn!

Seeing the damage unleashed by the small figment, Dayo charged in and swung at the fire figment from which she had just received her burns.
Dayo ran at the figment and struck it squarely with the blade, dealing 7 damage! However, the burning figment also dealt 4 damage to her.

Üsserhadd's turn!

Üsserhadd rushed past his fallen wolf cub and directed his sword at the ice figment, using a Heroic Strike with his sword to crush the little frozen figure.
The swing of Üsserhadd's sword dealt a whole of 7 damage to the icy figment, but since he had to get so close to it, his arms started freezing too and he took 2 damage!

The ice figment seemed to want to get rid of Üsserhadd no matter what, and thus casted Geiser right where he stood. The knight didn't have time to evade and was thus blown away by a powerful stream of water, just like Virul the last time! He took 16 damage and was blown way over to J21.

The rock figment casted Entangle on Dayo! Vines and roots shot up from under the lion's feet and grabbed at them. To the last moment, Dayo though she could get free of them, but was then stuck still!

Round 2!

The lightning figment floated to D14 and casted Wind slash on Üsserhadd!
The flame figment focused on the closer enemy instead and casted two Heat beams at Dayo.

Dazed from having flown, despite his heavy armor, Üsserhadd quickly rose up his shield to deflect the wind slash. "AH hahaha!" he shouted, since the figments were managing to put up more of a fight than he originally though, "Perfect!"
Still wobbly after having flown so high and dropped on his face, Üsserhadd foiled his blocking and the tearing winds dealt altogether 9 damage!
Dayo smiled as the twin beams blasted at her. She quickly rose up her axe to try to stave off one of the attacks, and having little else to block the other one, she hunkered down, hoping her armor would receive the brunt of the attack.
The lion managed to deflect both the heat beams, though the latter one only barely.

Dayo's turn!
Dayo managed to struggle free from the vines!

Dayo hurried out of the square she was standing in, taking a few steps and heading to the Stone Figment.

Üsserhadd's turn!
Üsserhadd headed directly for the lightning figment with a smile on his face and struck at the creature with his longsword.
Üsserhadd got to D15, but being so slow, he had no chance to attack before the elementals reacted!

The rock figment tried to hit Dayo with its stones and the ice figment shot an icicle from its body toward her.

Dayo drops her axe to bash the rock, while aiming to side-step the icicle from hitting her.
Puzzled from so many attacks against her in a single round, Dayo had no chance to wave her axe around enough to use it to block much, but she still managed to turn just the right spot of armor towards the rock figment's fist and block it. She couldn't, however, evade the icicle that hit her right in the neck and dealt 6 damage!

Round 3!

The lightning and flame figments wanted Üsserhadd out of the game, so the lightning figment moved to K14 and casted Wind Slash on him while the flame figment shot a bunch of flames at him!

Üsserhadd held up his shield to block.
Blocking the incoming attacks wasn't even much of an effort for Üsserhadd, but once again the ripping winds slashed through his body and dealt 5 damage, leaving the knight only barely standing!

Dayo's turn!

Seeing Usser nearly fall, Dayo rushed to him, handing him one of her potions to try to stabilize him.

Üsserhadd's turn!
Üsserhadd took the potion from Dayo and drank its contents. If it would give him enough strength to finish the fight, then it might be worth it to pay the lioness back.
Üsserhadd healed 18 HP!

The ice figment produced an icicle and threw it at Dayo, while the rock figment moved to D13 and tried to hit her!

"You little bast..." Dayo began to say, seeing the two bits of elements attacking her. With the icicle flying at her first, she attempted to jump out of it's way before bringing down her axe to smash back the rock.
Dayo failed at dodging and the icicle went right through a joint in her armor, dealing 6 damage! Fortunately she could still block the rock figment's punches.

Round 4!

The lightning figment moved back to E14 and tried to zap Dayo. The flame figment likewise tried to burn her.

Praying her reflexes would be enough, Dayo jumped and bounded to try to avoid both attacks, she didn't have much to block with anyway.
Dayo evaded the attacks well, but not well enough, and the lightning figment managed to zap her for one point of damage, while the flame figment's fire burned her for three!

Dayo's turn!

Knowing she was greatly injured, Dayo grabbed her other potion and downed it, readying to strike as soon as she could.
Dayo healed 13 HP!

Üsserhadd's turn!

Üsserhadd passed Dayo's right and around the vines in C14, coming back with his sword at the Flame Figment to finish the burning critter off.
Üsserhadd's strike hit squarely and dealt an excessive 17 damage, dissipating the little flames easily. They still burned him for 3 damage for the last time.

The ice figment shot an icy arrow at Üsserhadd while the rock figment tried to smash Dayo in the face.

With a smile and a chuckle, Dayo attempted to jump aside from the figments path, not figuring it was quick enough to hit her.
Üsserhadd knew that dodging was not possible, and so he held up his shield to block the incoming arrow.
The ice figment's arrow bounced harmlessly off Üsserhadd's armor, while the rock figment nearly fell over its own fist and giving Dayo nothing to dodge.

Round 5!

The lightning figment tried to zap Dayo once again.

Keeping up her quick movements, Dayo tried to jump aside once more in an attempt to dodge the lightning.
Though her try was good, the lightning figment was by far faster and it managed to send jolts going through the catfolk's body, frying her neural pathways and dealing 8 damage!

Dayo's turn!

"Ahhch!" Dayo yelped as the lightning coursed through her body. Regaining her composure, she hefted up her voulge, swinging it twice at the pesky lightning figment.
Dayo's aim was slightly off with the shifty cloud, but so was the lighting figment's dodging, and she managed to deal 1 damage! The second attack, then again, totally hit the spot and made the figment vanish into the air, dealing 11 damage!

Üsserhadd's turn!

Üsserhadd continued his way around the vines and struck at the ice figment to lower the number of enemies to one.
Üsserhadd shattered the little ice figment into tiny shards!

The vines vanished from C14, and the remaining rock elemental conscientiously continued trying to pound Dayo.

Dayo smirked. She was getting really annoyed with this rock and wanted to get rid of it. With hat, she jumped back, trying to avoid its punches.
Dayo's attempt was in vain and the rock figment got a very decent punch through, dealing 10 damage, knocking her out again and probably cracking a part of her hipbone!

Round 6!

Üsserhadd's turn!

Üssserhadd turned toward the Rock Figment and grinned, "Alright little man, it's you and me." The knight lifted his sword, brimming with yellow magic from the Peridot. Dashing over, Üsserhadd spent a last effort for a Heroic Strike on the remaining figment.
As Üsserhadd swung his sword, it somehow slipped from his hands and flew in a wide arc over the rock figment and into the pond with a barely audible splash!

The rock figment barely noticed Üsserhadd throwing his sword, and it certainly didn't stop it from trying to pummel him now!

Üsserhadd held up his buckler in defense, thinking the gods were determined to make him pay for some insult. A thought crossed his mind that perhaps they were a bit too vindictive, but he then focused again on bracing for impact.
The rock figment struck Üsserhadd's shield powerfully enough to shake him in his boots, but dealt no damage.

Round 7!

Üsserhadd's turn!

Üsserhadd took a moment to search through Dayo's belongings for a potion, hopefully enough of one to revive her and get an ally back into play.
Üsserhadd found a healing potion and managed to get Dayo drink it, bringing the tiger conscious again.

The rock figment, meanwhile, tried to bash the knight's face in.

Üsserhadd once again braced with his shield in defense.
Once again, Üsserhadd's defense stood firm against the figment's attack.

Round 7!

Dayo's turn!

Getting back around, Dayo let out a feral snarl, hefting her Voulge back up, she swung at the last remaining figment with all her might, aiming to finish this.
Dayo got a good blow through and chopped off a piece of the elemental, dealing 7 damage!

Üsserhadd's turn!

Üsserhadd had never considered that he might have to switch to a different weapon in combat. With little skill in anything but the sword, the knight felt it was time to broaden his horizons. The Kwall trident he nabbed earlier might come in handy, and he replaced his shield to have two hands on the spear. It felt weird, but he took a stab at the figment with the trident.
The figment saw Üsserhadd's haphazard attack coming and casually stepped on his trident, trapping it between its rocky foot and the ground!

With the trident trapped, the figment went straight for Üsserhadd's face with its stony fist.

Üsserhadd held up both his armguards over his face to block the fist. The knight was smiling, as he always enjoyed a good brawl.
Unsurprisingly, the rock figment's blow didn't go through this time, either.

Round 8!

Dayo's turn!

Dayo gave a light chuckle as she saw the second of Ussedhad's weapons get disabled, "You're just not having any luck, are you?" She said, as she took her hefty axe and swung once towards where the creatures 'neck' was, and then, using her expertise of the voulge, spun the axe around and swung again, this time, straight down on the creature's head.
Dayo's first blow hit its target and dealt 5 damage, making a good dent in the figment's neck. Her second strike came unexpected, sliced off a piece of the thing's head, dealing 4 damage and finishing the last of their enemies!

Combat ended!
Everyone received 820 XP!
Valiant leveled up.

Taki stood up unhurriedly and came to inspect the damages. She gave a glance at Valiant and decided it was Üsserhadd's responsibility to have his pet healed. "Are you content?"

Üsserhadd grabbed his trident and strapped it across his back once again. He looked at Taki and grumbled, "They were alright, not much to remember though. I'd have enjoyed something a little more fulfilling for the experience." The knight then pointed into the pond, "My sword fell in there, and I'm too heavy. Could you fetch it for me?"

Taki descended into the water, picked up the sword and handed it to Üsserhadd. "Hopefully sir knight's unfulfilled toes are happy that they are not wet," she said and smiled.

Dayo smiled at the little pile of rubble she had just created before rolling her neck and feeling a light crack roll down her spine, "They weren't too much, really. They just gave us a bit of a hassle. Them and their magics though...that magic stuff hurts like hell!" Thinking carefully, she quickly hefted up her axe and began carefully examining the edge of the blade, "Well, I'll be damned...That little rocky fellow chipped my voulge! Looks like I should probably go see Rizzo. Maybe get me some new armor while I'm there...Whaddaya say, Usserhad?"

Üsserhadd scoffed, "Who's Usserhad? It's Üsserhadd! Ooo-sir-had." The knight looked at the lioness a little differently though now that she'd become a bit of an accomplished warrior, "But since you're reliable in a pinch, I'll let you slide on that this time." After a quick stretched, he grabbed his sword from Taki and hefted the wolf pup, Valiant, onto his shoulder. "You go see Rizzo, I've got to take care of the lil'un." Üsserhadd finally replied, and then walked off towards the portal back to the colosseum.

Dayo laughed a bit after Üsserhadd had left. It's too bad for him that she hadn't gotten any good speech lessons while she was younger. After that, she hefted her axe up onto her shoulder and stepped out to the Colosseum herself.

2008-01-05 [Blood Raven]: If we are going to do a hard battle, the combined levels of the players times 1,5 , including Dayo, excluding the pets, will be 42. So I think we'll be battling multiple smaller critters, instead of 1 Hellspawned Overlord :) I think we wouldn't be able to survive that for more than 3 rounds :P

2008-01-05 [Grengo]: Oh, combined levels of all the players? Heh, I should've gotten Virul those +5s earlier. >_>

2008-01-05 [Blood Raven]: yeah, that's what the guidelines are on arena combat.
Easy - Monster(s) level 75% of the level of all participants added together. Yields only 50% experience.
Normal - Monster(s) level equal to the level of all participants added together. Yields full experience.
Hard - Monster(s) level 150% of the level of all participants added togehter. Yields 125% experience.

2008-01-05 [Blood Raven]: you would get 25000 XP for defeating an overlord though, that's 6250 for everybody, which would mean you'd shoot up like... 4 levels or something :P

2008-01-06 [Duredhel]: Uhhm... mebbe in honor of this gathering I should GM this one :3

2008-01-06 [Adaman]: Yeah, except that overlords are no pushovers. I have tactics for defeating them with Lv.25 characters, but we're all Lv.10 or lower characters (mostly lower). Granted we have Üsserhadd's awesome defense, Virul's excellent 4 blade combo, Tiae's Offensive magic, Mika's support/defensive magic, and then Dayo to be cannon fodder, but it'd still be a losing fight in my opinion. Especially since overlords are pseudo-summoners.

In short, I'm in favor of the Hard level of monsters, but multiple monsters. Not one big baddie.

2008-01-06 [Grengo]: Speaking of, Virul's the only real healer/stat booster of the group, so I'll have to quickly run off and buy MP potions. COnsidering Dur's gonna' be GMing this, I'd say there's plenty of time for him to head over and do his business and maybe get some speed training along the way <.<

2008-01-06 [Sturmi]: lol! well then, Tiae could pay a visit to the temple and maybe buy healing potions too

2008-01-08 [Blood Raven]: I think it'd be cool if Dur GMed this one, else I'll be playing and GMing this at the same time, and usually I find that less entertaining to do.

2008-01-08 [Veltzeh]: I thought the characters of players who are GMs for the arenas can't even battle in that specific arena?

2008-01-08 [Blood Raven]: that would mean there are only 2 arenas where my chars can battle :P
But I'm always quite fair a GM when my own chars are playing in my area. Although I must confess I try to kill them in more spectacular ways than usual :P Usually, these spectacular attacks deal a lot of damage as well, so I usually let my chars avoid any area I GM :P

But of course, I wouldn't want to miss this fight for anything :D

2008-01-16 [Sturmi]: is Dur still going to GM this?

2008-01-16 [Blood Raven]: okay Dur, if you're going to GM, this is a good time :P

2008-01-16 [Veltzeh]: If he won't, I'll need to, right?

2008-01-16 [Blood Raven]: You, me, I dunno. You could handle this Arena anyway, if you want to. That give me like 3 arenas in which I can battle without having to GM my own chars, and be able to place bets :P

2008-01-16 [Veltzeh]: Well, you shouldn't, but I suppose I could start handling this arena regularly. Should we wait for Dur to comment whether he'll do this fight or should I just start now?

2008-01-16 [Blood Raven]: I haven't GMed my own chars, nor placed bets in any matches I GMed, don't worry. I'm hiding from the wiki-maffiosi, I'm keeping my head low  <.<   >.>

2008-01-16 [Adaman]: Big Cats can't meow, even as kittens.

2008-01-16 [Veltzeh]: Except in Lemire.

2008-01-16 [Sturmi]: well they can't roar when they're kittens either

2008-01-16 [Adaman]: Good answer [Veltzeh], heh. Oh well, it's not a huge detail if Veltz doesn't pick on it.

2008-01-16 [Veltzeh]: Well, coming up with plausible excuses is another thing I can do pretty well in some cases.

2008-01-17 [Adaman]: Defend me once or twice then, it'd be an honor.

2008-01-19 [Duredhel]: You guys could've messaged me when you were ready to start y'know?

2008-01-19 [Adaman]: We're ready to start.

2008-01-19 [Duredhel]: Aye aye :3 all players are here? What's the encounter level/difficulty setting?

2008-01-19 [Adaman]: Settling on a hard difficulty, but with about an equal or near equal number of enemies to what we have with allies.

2008-01-19 [Duredhel]: Could anyone please tell me the added levels of everyone? (and who exactly is here) I'm so out of touch with RoLA :O

2008-01-19 [Grengo]: Virul, Usserhadd, Tiae, Mika, and Dayo. Combined levels are..... 36 without the pets.

2008-01-21 [Lepellier]: *twiddles thumbs* So...

2008-01-21 [Sturmi]: Pets would be Valiant (5), Audun (4), Wolf (1) and Sheba (3) = 13. Wow.

2008-01-21 [Blood Raven]: we are going to be in so much heroic pain 0.o;

2008-01-22 [Duredhel]: Uhhhm.. guys.. this week is gonna be REALLY crazy for me, so we can wait till saturday or one of you can GM ^^' either way is fine by me.

2008-01-22 [Blood Raven]: Seems we have to choose between Vetlz and Dur then. What say ye?

2008-01-22 [Veltzeh]: Are the pets in on this?

2008-01-22 [Blood Raven]: I don't mind if they are, but then again, how much damage can creatures 10 levels lower than the monster we're facing do?

2008-01-22 [Grengo]: Their main purpose is to level up. Anyhow, I vote for Veltz.

2008-01-22 [Adaman]: Second.

2008-01-22 [Veltzeh]: Vote for whether you want the pets in on it too!

2008-01-22 [Lepellier]: Vel, and...well...I honestly don't care, pets don't effect me.

2008-01-23 [Grengo]: Virul's wolf will be completely useless for this, minus perhaps as a decoy. Anyhow, free exp so..... yes for pets.

2008-01-23 [Sturmi]: yeah I'd say yes for pets as well, even though they will be pretty much useless. Veltzeh, I think you can start GMing this, since I vote for you as well.

2008-01-23 [Lepellier]: Well, it's 4-1, so no matter what Blood says, I think you're GM'ing this Vel. Lets get this party swinging.

2008-01-23 [Veltzeh]: Hmm, 49 levels times 1,5... 63. You're going to die. :D

2008-01-23 [Lepellier]: How about we do 36*1.5? Seems so much nicer to us.

2008-01-23 [Veltzeh]: I think I'm going to take that back. You're not going to die.

2008-01-23 [Veltzeh]: O_o Tiae and Shebah don't have full HP.

2008-01-23 [Veltzeh]: But I don't care, I'll just have them at full anyway. And I take my takeback back. :D

2008-01-23 [Grengo]: Alright, main priority is to take out that air elemental ASAP. Low HP, ginormous MP, and spells that can take half of Usserhadd's hit points is tempting to kill first.

2008-01-23 [Lepellier]: The earth elemental should be easy enough to beat with a load of yellow magic in the party, Mika has a little advantage against the fire elemental with his smite skill, so the air and earth should be the first two taken out.
